This luxury care home based in Berkshire really is something to behold. Our brief was to create living spaces for the residents that were beautiful and luxurious as well as soft and welcoming.
This beautiful family home has now been occupied by a new family of residents for over 25 years. In the mid-90s William Fitch was invited to become part of the management at Harwood House Luxury Care Home. Being the son of a minister of a church in Belfast, he grew up knowing the importance of showing love and kindness to those who need it and this is reflected in all aspects of the home, including the interiors. As a professional accountant, he had seen with dismay how unfeeling care homes can be when they are run solely for profit from a distant head office. For him, every resident should be treated with respect and cared for with love.
Elegant touches can be seen throughout the Edwardian home, from the portrait of Michael's Edwardian great grandfather over the grand staircase to the light and airy hallways featuring our Karinta Console Table, a striking and unique design and adorned with a pair of our Laurita Table Lamps with there sophisticated and elegant silhouette. Warm touches can be seen throughout with our Lustleigh Fabric window dressings in the corridors and residents apartments. These warm textures and ample use of lighting gives a wonderful homely atmosphere and the use of the same fabric and home accessories in different colours throughout gives a sense of continuity and connection between the spaces.
Each bedroom has a distinct individual style and personality. To create a comfy and relaxed interior, we used a mix of traditional and contemporary pieces, combining textures, colours and materials. Our Tanjina Bedside Table has been painted in our fabulous Grey Blue paint, giving a fun/contemporary feel. Our Allerdale Console with it's scallop edging and greyed oak finish, is a beautiful play on traditional furniture, inspired from William's childhood dream of creating furniture for his future house! Our Keste Mirror sits wonderfully above our Allerdale Console, with a smart finish and antique detailing on the edges of the mirrored glass. Attention to detail is also seen in our Stina Cocktail Table which has an intricate eggshell inlay top that has been created by hand and sits on a very smart antiqued bronze base. Paired with our Milton Chair which is elegantly shaped with fine conical legs and a plinth. We wanted to ensure each bedroom has an elegant feel whilst still remaining comfortable for the resident.
The Tanjina Bedside Cabinet in our Library paint gives a contemporary feel to this bedroom and the ambiences created by our Laurita Table Lamps, gives a calm and cosy atmosphere.
Each room has a personal touch and reflects our shared concern to create a true home from home with touches of luxury. We used our Highcliffe Chair for it's wonderful form and high back ensuring maximum support for the user. Pairing with our Alexi Cushion gives further comfort with our luxurious feather padding and a luxurious richly coloured embroidered yarns and smart trim border. Our Lulworth Freestanding cubes can be used as both a foot rest or a surface to place a book or tray of biscuits for visitors!
