How To | Create the Perfect Festive Table
‘’A Christmas table does not have to be cliché, but it does have to be personal, and it should most definitely have a sense of humour!’’.
William Yeoward
It's never too early to start thinking ahead to creating a magical and festive table spread that'll fill your home with the spirit of Christmas. This Christmas, set a festive table spread with tableware and accessories from candlesticks and decorative items to placemats and napkins, William Yeoward’s gorgeous range of festive tableware is sure to make this Christmas the most splendid one yet!
Follow our step-by-step guide for creating the perfect Christmas table.
- Start with Special Tableware
Beginning with a blank canvas, choose your favourite tablecloth, whether this is white, red or a beautifully patterned piece, the goal is to find something different from your everyday set. Alternatively, let the dining table take centre stage. Going for a more modern look we have let the Greyed Oak finish of our Hawford Dining Table sing and the result is quite magnificent. William Yeoward's wonderful Woven Round Placemats in Forest are a fabulous starting point for mapping out your table plan. Pair with our beautifully soft 100% linen napkins, available in a range of gorgeous colours to suit any setting, or mix and match your favourite colours for a festive delight. Use with our glass napkin rings for a match made in heaven. For a finishing touch place alongside a hand-written name tag of the fortunate person to be sitting at your table.
- Add a Striking Centrepiece
The table must live up to the meal, of course, and choosing the perfect centrepiece for such an occasion is imperative to this experience. Turning to a larger and more striking piece, such as our Cocoon Hurricane Candle Holder is a wonderful idea and sure to draw compliments. Place this beautiful and unique piece inside a handmade wreath and fill the remaining length of your table with our Cylinder Candle’s in Ochre. Alternatively, for a more minimal (but equally as exciting) approach to your table decorations, line the length of your table with our Cumulus Candle Stick Holders with tall white or red candles, intertwined with a Frosted Mistletoe Garland.
- Set the Festive Mood
There is something so endearing about eating a delicious Christmas feast by candlelight. When thinking of Christmas time, dark afternoons, the smell of a freshly decorated Christmas tree and the sound of a roaring fire come to mind. Why not bring the magical smells of Christmas to your dining room with the Santa Baby Candle. This is the ultimate Christmas candle to burn as the backdrop for your celebrations and enhance that festive mood. With notes of Lime, Orange and Mandarin with middle notes of Nordic Pine and Spruce, your guests will be craving this scent just as much as the food!
- Serve your Feast in Style
With an appropriately stylish foundation in place, the next step is to find serveware to perfectly complement and enhance your base layer. Eye-catching and practical, serving sets are an essential decorative layer to your table arrangements. Greet your guests with some deliciously festive canapes, served on the end of our Teak Twig Forks, and decorate the platter with holly leaves, wild berries and a neat selection of our cocktail napkins. The star of the show, our Gold Brushed Serving Bowl, this sublime serving bowl is perfect for a large Christmas pudding, ablaze and dripping in a brandy, ready to be devoured.
- Add Extra Sparkle with Table Decor
To finish the look, add a sprinkle of festive cheer in the form of our timeless snowglobes, whimsical candle spinners and glittering wonderballs. Simply dot them around the table, anywhere that there is a slight gap, the more the merrier! They will catch the candle light beautifully, filling the room with shimmering gold specks. It’s Christmas after all and we need a little sparkle.
- Create the Festive Scene
Every detail counts, so don’t forget about the rest of your dining room! Spread the festivity around the room effortlessly, with deliberately placed candles on the mantelpiece or some Christmas figures to help welcome and entice your guests into your home. Why not bring yourself and your guests back to the adventures of your last European Christmas market trip, full of treasure troves and conversation starter pieces, by adding a miniature Christmassy scene to your window sill with the Vermeer’s House Tealight. Create your very own cosy Dutch street full of glowing canal houses by mixing and matching.
- Create a Comfortable Setting
Finally, to encourage long, lazy dining, use your most comfortable chairs with extra cushions. True to from, our dining chairs are comfortable enough for the party to linger until the New Year. Our Bodiam Carver or Side Chairs look wonderful when paired with both brightly coloured cushions or a more muted style. Try our Paddy Velvet cushion in Raspberry or Forest for a cosy, festive, touch! Serve up a glass of whiskey, brandy or hot coffee and pass around the Christmas chocolates in one of our brightly coloured Strata Bowls.
Once you’ve followed all of these steps, there’s only one thing left to do. Invite your nearest and dearest to enjoy your festive feast in style. We’ll leave the guest list up to you…
